No one may check out library materials if two or more items are overdue or maximum fines and lost item fees have not been paid. Maximum outstanding balance is $200.00.

Lost Items

All items are considered lost and billable after 28 days past due date. There will be a $100 fine and overdue fines (if applicable) for each lost item. Arrangements can be made to replace lost item with an EXACT replacement purchased by the patron.

Reserve Collection

This collection, located behind the Library Answer Desk, includes books, articles, and/or audio and video materials for short-term reading or viewing as assigned by faculty. Since many students need to access a limited number of copies or materials, fines for overdue items are heavy: 3-hr. loans: $.50 per hour overdue, per item. Search the catalog for reserve items.

Printing, Photocopying, and Scanning

UW-BSC students start each semester with $10 in their print account.  B&W prints are $.05 each, color prints are $.25 each.  A student may add additional funds to a print account at the Library Answer Desk. Unused print money will not be refunded or transfer over to the next semester.

Students wishing to make photocopies may use the student photocopier/printer located near the Library Answer Desk. All printed copies are $.10 each. Scanning is free, and library staff are available to assist.

Citation & Writing Help

Writing Help

Contact a writing tutor in the campus Academic Success Center for in-person writing assistance. The Online Writing Lab (OWL)is a free online resource open to any UW Colleges student. Students can email drafts of their writing to the OWL staff and receive feedback from a peer writing tutor.

The Writing Center at UW Madison has guides to common writing assignments, as well as citation guides for APA, Chicago/Turabian, MLA and more.

Citation Tools

When you are writing research or other types of papers, it is important to give credit to books, journal articles, web sites, and other sources of information you used to create your paper. If you fail to cite the sources you used, it is considered plagiarism. Citing your sources also allows someone reading your paper to locate additional information related to your topic. The resources below are tools to help you create and manage your citations.

NoodleTools allows you to create a personal account and save citations and create a whole Works Cited page. Account must be set up on campus before it's accessible from home. For more informaiton, see thisvideo tutorial on NoodleTools.

Purdue's Online Writing Lab (OWL)is a renowned writing and citation help center. The site hosts detailed MLA and APA citation guides.

If you have a citation for an article, and you want to find the full text of the article use Citation Linker.

Equipment

The library circulates a variety of equipment for short term loans, typically 7 day loans. See the laptops & equipment page for more information and equipment specifications.
