The Tuscania was carrying American troops to Europe during WWI when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat. It sank within hours. Thanks to the bravery of the British Royal Navy and the compassion of a Scottish island community, over 1,800 American soldiers survived.
The Tuscania Memorial, unveiled in November 2018 in Baraboo, honors the hundreds of brave American doughboys, rescuers, and survivors of the Tuscania disaster.
Steve Argo, project director of the National Tuscania Remembrance Association and history teacher at Baraboo High School has been recognized statewide for his teaching and community service.
