The works of Arliss Kelsey will be on display at the UW-Baraboo/Sauk County's James A. Schwalbach Gallery from January 24 through March 22, 2013. Kelsey is an Iowa-based artist whose work is inspired by the landscape that surrounds her.
In Views from the Farm, Kelsey uses oil paintings to express the colors she sees outdoors every day in a nonrepresentational way, and collages to reflect her view as a farm wife.
Kelsey was raised in Southwest Iowa and in high school was a finalist in the Scholastic Art Exhibition in New York, NY. She earned a B.A. in Art from the University of Iowa and went on to teach until retiring to raise her family and work her farm. She is the founder of Giftcards, a small business that sells hand-designed cards, stationery, and gift certificates. In 2002 she began to seriously draw and paint again, and has since been selected to exhibit throughout the Midwest.
The Schwalbach Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
