UW-Baraboo/Sauk County dean finalists announced

Aaron Brower, interim chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension, has announced the names of four finalists for campus executive officer and dean of UW-Baraboo/Sauk County.

Jon K. Dalager is the former dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences at Wayne State University, Wayne, Neb.  In 2013, he was a visiting Fulbright Professor at the Institute of England & American Studies at Johann Goethe University in Frankfort am Main, Germany. 

Tom L. Neal is currently associate dean and associate professor of chemistry at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County. 

Tracy K. White is associate dean at UW-Barron County and served as acting CEO/dean at the campus in 2011 and again in 2012-13. She is an associate professor of biological sciences.  

William Wresch is associate dean of the College of Business at UW Oshkosh and has had several administrative positions at UW Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point. He is a professor of information systems at UW Oshkosh. 

“I am tremendously pleased that we have a full slate of well-qualified candidates for this position,” Brower said. “I’m confident we will select someone who can be an innovative leader on campus and also maintain the strong relationships between the campus and the community.”

Community members are invited to join campus faculty, staff and students for open forums that will be held at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County on the following dates: 

  • April 30 at 5 p.m., Tom Neal
  • May 6 at 3:30 p.m., Bill Wresch
  • May 8 at 3:30 p.m., Jon Dalager
  • May 13 at 3:30 p.m., Tracy White

Following each forum, feedback may be submitted to interim chancellor Brower at brb-deansearchfeedback@uwc.edu.

"Our new dean will work closely with many groups and individuals to define the evolving role of the campus within the community," said Dr. Annette Kuhlmann, UW-BSC professor of sociology and chair of the search advisory committee. "We encourage as many people as possible to attend the finalist presentations and to provide feedback as part of the selection process."

Brower said he plans to name the next CEO/dean by June 1 and hopes to have that person in place at the start of the fall semester.

The new dean will succeed Tom Pleger, who recently was named the president of Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Pleger has been CEO/dean of UW-Baraboo/Sauk County since 2006. The CEO/dean is both the chief executive officer and chief academic officer of the campus.

UW-Baraboo/Sauk County is a campus of the UW Colleges, an institution of the UW System comprised of 13 freshman-sophomore campuses and UW Colleges Online that offer an associate degree in arts and science and a single Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences degree, and prepare students of all ages and backgrounds for baccalaureate and professional programs.
