Assistant deans, student support directors named

By UW-Platteville

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville announces the newly hired assistant deans and directors of student support services at UW-Platteville Richland and UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County. These newly-developed positions are designed to support each campus by having the faculty available on a regular basis.

Zoie Eva Lutz, assistant dean, and Greg Zimmerman, director of student services, will serve UW-Platteville Richland; and Stephen Swallen, assistant dean, and Jennifer Walsh, director of student services, will serve UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County.

They join the previously announced campus deans of Brandon Fetterly in Richland and Ed Janairo in Baraboo Sauk County, giving the branch campuses administrative and academic presences at both locations, as opposed to the regionalization system that previously existed at the two-year institutions.

Lutz has worked at UW-Platteville Richland (formerly UW-Richland) since 1991 as a professor of communication and theatre arts. She has experience on committees for the UW Colleges including Senate Appeals and Grievance, Senate Assessment, Flex Faculty HR Team and Institutional Safety Oversight. Zimmerman joined the campus in 2016 as an academic advisor and became a campus administrator in December 2017. He has focused on developing a peer academic coaching program and conducting group visits and activities for Milwaukee-area schools.

Swallen joined UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County (formerly UW-Baraboo/Sauk County) in 2010 as a senior lecturer of chemistry, and he has also been the associate dean of instruction and an assistant professor. He has served on committees concerning appointments, steering, buildings and grounds, information technology, budget and behavioral intervention. Walsh has worked at the campus in student affairs and academic advising since 2014. She has focused on engaging students in the first year on campus and inviting four-year university transfer advisors to campus.

In addition, Beverly Simonds will serve as deans’ assistants on both campuses, splitting her time.

Other branch campus positions that are currently being advertised are in communications, continuing education and facilities.

UW-Platteville collaboratively integrated with its new branch campuses on July 1, strengthening the footprint of higher education in southwestern Wisconsin.
