UW-BSC offers small business courses

UW-Baraboo/Sauk County Continuing Education is now registering for non-credit business workshops and courses. The classes, taught by professionals in the field, offer hands-on learning on campus, 1006 Connie Road, in Baraboo.

  • April 3: Small Business: The First Step, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., with instructor Neil Lerner, director of Madison Small Business Development Center. Explore your business idea and assess your entrepreneurial readiness. Identify your own strengths and weaknesses as a business owner and determine the potential for your business. This is an interactive workshop with hands-on exercises, local success stories, and lots of resources. This program is designed for people who have not yet started a business. Fee is $39.

  • April 4: How to Attract and Retain Quality People, from 9 to 11 a.m., with instructor Jack Harkins, founder of Harkins Leadership Development Corporation. Learn how to hire the right people, implement a simple evaluation process to help improve productivity, and create a culture for greatness. Implementing a few simple steps will dramatically improve your organization and take you to a whole new level. Fee is $89.

  • April 4 and 11: Microsoft Excel, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., with instructor Terri Nee-Holtz. Increase your productivity with Excel power tools. Learn to use spreadsheets and their varying formulas and functions, design and organize worksheets, add charts and graphs, and create and use simple macros that save time and mistakes. Fee is $78.

  • April 12: Reiki Level III: Master Level Reiki for Healthcare Professionals ... and Everyone Else, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with instructor John Oestreicher. Reiki is a Japanese form of stress reduction and deep relaxation that helps strengthen the immune system and promotes healing. This workshop is designed for those who would like to become Level III Reiki Master Practitioners. Students will learn the tools, techniques and symbols of the master level and training will be given on how to give an attunement. Upon completion, students will receive Reiki Master Level III Certification. Fee is $350.
