UW-Baraboo dean finalists named

Four finalists have been named in the search for a new campus executive officer and dean at the University of Wisconsin-Baraboo/Sauk County. Aaron Brower, interim chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension announced the finalists Monday.

Tom L. Neal, who is already a familiar face on campus, was among the names released. Neal has served as associate dean for academic affairs at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County since 2010 and has taught chemistry at the university since 2001, first as an assistant professor and as an associate professor since 2007.

“My more than 20 years of commitment to excellence in a university setting has led me to this point of my career,” Neal wrote in his cover letter to the search committee. “I have dedicated the last 15 years of my working life to the UW Colleges, and find myself prepared to take on a higher level of leadership within the Colleges.”

The other finalists are Jon K. Dalager, who served as dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb., Tracy K. White, associate dean at UW-Barron County and William Wresch, associate dean of the College of Business at UW-Oshkosh.

Current Campus Executive Officer and Dean Tom Pleger, who has held the position in Baraboo since 2006, recently was named president of Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. He plans to take on the new role July 1.

“I am tremendously pleased that we have a full slate of well-qualified candidates for this position,” Brower said in a statement. “We hope to select someone who can be an innovative leader on campus and also maintain the strong relationships between the campus and the community.”

The finalists will visit the UW-Baraboo campus over the next several weeks and will hold open forums for faculty, staff, students and the public. The visits are scheduled April 30 for Neal, May 6 for Wresch, May 8 for Dalager and May 13 for White.

Brower has said that he plans to name the next CEO/dean by June 1 and have that person in place by the start of the fall semester.
