New Student Certification

Browse through the federal benefits below and complete all steps for the benefit you are applying for. Pay special attention to the documents you need to bring in to the Veteran’s Certifying Official in Student Affairs. 

Chapter 33 Post 9/11 Education Benefits (at least 90 days active duty after September 11, 2001)

The process for receiving Chapter 33 benefits is initiated with the VBC or through the County Veterans Services Office. Final certification and completion of an enrollment verification form is handled through the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in the UW-Marathon County Student Affairs Office. To expedite the certification process, you need: 

  1. Apply online through VONAPP
  2. Bring in the following to the Veteran’s Services Coordinator in the Student Affairs Office:
  • Copy of Certificate of Eligibility (COE) received from VA after submission of application
  • Copy of DD214 Member 4
  •  Kicker contract (if applicable)
  • Copy of student schedule after registration is complete each semester

If you do not have a copy of your DD-214, please contact your County Veterans Service Office to request an official copy.

New Student Certification - Chapter 30 Benefits

(Montgomery GI Bill for Active Duty Personnel and Veterans Since 1985) New students who have been admitted to UWMC and are eligible for veterans’ benefits may apply for federal benefits. Certification of registration and academic standing are required by the St. Louis VA Regional Office prior to the initial disbursement of monthly entitlement checks. To expedite the certification process, you need to:

  1. Apply online through VONAPP
  2. Bring in the following to the Veteran’s Services Coordinator in the Student Affair Office:
  • Copy of Certificate of Eligibility (COE) received from VA after submission of application
  • Copy of DD214 (Member 4)
  • Kicker contract (if applicable)
  • Copy of student schedule after registration is complete each semester

If you do not have a copy of your DD-214, please contact your County Veterans Service Office to request an official copy.

New Student Certification - Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation Program

The process for receiving Chapter 31 benefits is initiated with the Case Manager at the Veterans Administration in Eau Claire (715-834-2154). Final certification and completion of an enrollment verification form is handled through the Veterans Benefits Coordinator in the UW-Marathon County Student Affairs Office.

Chapter 35 – Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program – Spouses and Children (100% service-related disability or death of veteran)

  1. Apply online through VONAPP
  2. Bring in the following to the Veteran’s Services Coordinator in the Student Affairs Office:
  • Copy of Certificate of Eligibility (COE) received from VA after submission of application
  • Copy of Veteran’s DD214 (Member 4)
  • Copy of Birth Certificate
  • Copy of student schedule after registration is complete each semester

If you do not have a copy of your DD-214, please contact your County Veterans Service Office to request an official copy.

Chapter 1606 Benefits

(Montgomery GI Bill for Reserve and Guard Members Since 1985) New students who have been admitted to UWMC and are eligible for veterans’ benefits may apply for federal benefits. Certification of registration and academic standing are required by the St. Louis VA Regional Office prior to the initial disbursement of monthly entitlement checks. To expedite the certification process: 

  1. Apply online through VONAPP
  2. Bring in the following to the Veteran’s Services Coordinator in the Student Affairs Office:
  • DD Form 2384-1 NOBE from your Unit to the Veterans Benefits Coordinator 
  • Copy of DD214 
  • Kicker contract (if applicable)
  • Copy of student schedule after registration is complete each semester

If you do not have a copy of your DD-214, please contact your County Veterans Service Office to request an official copy.

Chapter 1607 (REAP) Benefits

(Montgomery GI Bill for Reserve and Guard Members Since 1985) New students who have been admitted to UWMC and are eligible for veterans’ benefits may apply for federal benefits. Certification of registration and academic standing are required by the St. Louis VA Regional Office prior to the initial disbursement of monthly entitlement checks. To expedite the certification process: 

  1. Apply online through VONAPP
  2. Bring in the following to the Veteran’s Services Coordinator in the Student Affairs Office:
  • DD Form 2384-1 NOBE from your Unit to the Veterans Benefits Coordinator 
  • Copy of DD214 (showing deployment dates)
  • Kicker contract (if applicable)
  • Copy of student schedule after registration is complete each semester

If you do not have a copy of your DD-214, please contact your County Veterans Service Office to request an official copy.

UW-Baraboo/Sauk County is fully approved for the certification of educational benefits for veterans and veterans' dependents under both federal and state veterans administration programs.
