The new student orientation program at UW-Baraboo/Sauk County provides an important opportunity for new students to learn more about their upcoming experiences on campus. The program provides information about advising and registration, campus life, university resources, services, and facilities, as well as the opportunity to meet and interact with other students, faculty, and staff. Separate programs are provided for new freshman and new transfer students.

- Convocation: For new freshmen and parents/spouse; held the week before the start of fall semester.
All registrations for new student orientation are done via the web. New students will receive instructions from the Office of Student Affairs on how to access the Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) website, which is accessible only to newly-admitted freshman and walks through the process of signing up for the SOAR program.
Transfer Student Orientation Program
- Sessions take place before the start of each semester.
- All incoming transfer students are mailed invitations that include the program date and time.
In order to support orientation and advising programs for incoming students, the following one-time orientation fees are automatically included in the first semester tuition & fees for both new freshman and transfer students. This fee is $145.
Registration for Continuing, Transfer, Reentry and Special Students

Advance registration for continuing, transfer, and reentry students usually begins on the second Wednesday of April for the fall semester and the second Wednesday of November for the spring semester. Continuing students receive an enrollment "appointment time" which indicates when they are eligible to begin registering for classes.
