UW-BSC Continuing Education offers a variety of non-credit fitness courses for students and community members.

 

Winter Spring 2015 Fitness Classes

 

POWER HOUR

Register Online 

Start your day off right with a power hour full of cardio, burst training, strength training and core work. There will be a heavy emphasis on body weight exercises in this class. We will also utilize several pieces of equipment including steps, resistance bands, jump ropes and free weights. Showers are available.

EARLY MORNING MIX

If you like to get up and go in the morning, or at least feel better when you do, this is the class for you! Join Tennille for this upbeat mix of cardio and muscle conditioning with free weights, body bars, fitness balls, and more. Get your heart pumping and give yourself a boost of energy to help you through the day.

FRIDAY MORNING WAKE UP YOGA

This combination of gentle yoga postures and breathing will help awaken your mind, stretch your body, and calm your soul. Improve your balance and increase your positive energy. Improve your circulation and experience better mental clarity. This Hatha-based yoga class is designed to keep you moving from one pose to another in rhythm with your breath. The focus is on natural movement, core strength, and breathing, to help you start your day on the right foot.

Zumba Gold® is for first-time or deconditioned exercisers, seniors, or anyone who has wanted to try Zumba but would prefer an easier-paced class.

LUNCHTIME ZUMBA TONING

Body sculpting meets fitness party! A calorie-burning, strength-training class with the same great Latin and international music you love from regular Zumba class. You’ll learn to use light hand weights to enhance rhythm, build strength and tone all the target zones (light weights provided.) This class is appropriate for teens to seniors and no previous dance or Zumba experience required.

TAI CHI FUNDAMENTALS

Rhonda Siebecker teaches Tai Chi Fundamentals, a simplified Fundamentals Form, based on traditional Yang Style tai chi, developed by Tricia Yu, MA. You will learn basic non-impact movement patterns and form, along with the mind/body principles of tai chi for both physical and mental well- being.

FIT BARRE

Develop the length of a dancer and the strength of an athlete with this 60- minute ballet barre workout. This is a high energy/no-impact exercise class that combines barre work and light weights. You will build long, lean muscles, and burn fat while having a great time. No dance experience required. Please bring a mat or towel to class, along with a water bottle.

BELLY DANCING

Learn figure eights, shimmies and beautiful veil movements in this class, designed for those interested in a fun, low-impact way to strengthen core muscles and move their bodies in a whole new way. Yoga pants or shorts and tighter fitting camisoles or t-shirts are recommended attire. Jingle hip scarves are optional! This class is for fun and fitness with no public performances required.

BEGINNING FENCING

Fencing is a centuries-old sport that develops both physical agility and mental focus. Plus, it’s FUN! Fencing is an excellent aerobic exercise that helps improve eye-hand coordination, physical agility, and balance, while promoting fitness and increased confidence and self-esteem. It’s an ideal sport for all ages and abilities.

In this class, we’ll discuss the history and different styles and weapons, before learning the basic rules, etiquette, footwork, attacks and defensive positions used in French style sport fencing. The focus will be on learning the basics of sport fencing, which will include supervised sparring and peer-to-peer bouts. All equipment is provided. Please wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes.

FENCING CLUB

This club is a great opportunity for those with some fencing experience or for those who have completed an introductory fencing class. Fencers meet once a week to practice their skills and hold bouts with different club members. The club will be led by Mark Tully.
