Campus Counseling Center
Under Pressure?
It happens to all students.
It's OK to ask for help!
In college, you can sometimes feel like the weight of the world is on you. If you’re ever feeling depressed or hopeless, know that you are not alone, and there are sources readily available to help you. Data from college students across the country showed that at some point in the previous year:
- 30% felt so depressed that it was difficult to function
- 47% felt things were hopeless
- 49% felt overwhelming anxiety
- 60% felt very lonely
- 87% felt overwhelmed by all they had to do
If you are having any of these feelings, you can reach out for help by contacting the Campus Counseling Center. The Counseling Center offers up to 6 free sessions per year for UW-BSC students. We're here to help with all mental health issues, stress management, test taking anxiety, relationship issues, parenting, addictions, and more.

How much are college students really drinking?
If you were to believe some of the stories you hear, you might think that most college students are getting drunk all the time. Here are some facts taken from national data and a March 2009 UW Colleges survey:
- Nationally, 19% of college students did not drink any alcohol in the past year. In the UW Colleges, 33% of students describe themselves as nondrinkers.
- Nationally, 63% consume an average of 0-4 drinks per week; 60% for UW Colleges students.
- 35% of UWC students say they drink less since they started college, and 42% report drinking about the same amount as before college.
- The majority of students who drink report that they typically drink once per week or less.
